PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a copolymer capable of improving the impact strength of a thermoplastic resin without lowering the fluidity of the thermoplastic resin in molding. SOLUTION: The method for producing a copolymer comprises the polymerization of a vinyl monomer component containing a carboxy group-containing vinyl monomer in the presence of a rubbery polymer. The amount of the carboxy-containing vinyl monomer is 0.1-4 mass%, preferably 0.4-2 mass% based on 100 mass% of total copolymer.
