PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lever type connector with strengthened locking force of a lever, achieving reduction of size. SOLUTION: A lever 50 having an engaging part 52 and an operation part 63 at respective ends thereof is turnably supported in a housing groove 14 of a female housing 10 centering around an axis 17a, and both housings 10, 30 are fitted to each other by the principle of the lever when the lever 50 is turned by fitting the engaging part 52 to a face to be fitted 38 of a male housing 30. The lever 30 is temporarily held in a slanted posture with the operation part 63 side elevated by the engaging part 52 elastically locked by a locking protrusion 26 of a paired temporal holding pieces 25 formed inside the housing groove 14. Since the lever is locked at a position most distant from the operation part 63 with a turning axis as a center, the turning can be effectively locked even when foreign obstacle hits the operation part 63, and high locking force is obtained. In accordance with fitting of both housings 10, 30, a releasing part 42 compulsorily opens and deforms the both temporal holding pieces 25 to automatically release the temporal holding.
