PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high density magnetic recording medium having excellent thermal stability by alloying an FePt crystal into ordered alloy to exhibit high magnetic anisotropy, causing a c-axis being an easy axis of magnetization to be preferentially oriented in the direction vertical to the film surface and further fining the FePt crystal grain and magnetically separating crystal grains from one another. SOLUTION: An under layer constituted of recessed parts consisting of Fe oxide particles 15 and projecting parts enclosing the recessed parts and mainly made up of an amorphous oxide 14 is formed on a substrate 11, and the FePt ordered alloy crystal particles 16 are formed on the recessed parts of the under layer.
