PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal intermediate pressure type multistage compression rotary compressor capable of achieving stable operation by avoiding beforehand the pressure inversion of the discharge pressure of a first rotary compression element and the discharge pressure of a second rotary compression element. SOLUTION: This multistage compression type rotary compressor comprises a communicating passage 100 serving for communication between a region of intermediate pressure and a region of low pressure which is the intake pressure of the first rotary compression element 32, and a valve device 117 for opening/closing the communicating passage 100. High pressure which is the discharge pressure of the second rotary compression element 34 is applied as the back pressure of a vane 50, and the valve device 117 opens the communicating passage 100 when the pressure difference between the intermediate pressure and low pressure is enlarged to a predetermined upper limit value before the intermediate pressure reaches high pressure.
