PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrophobic inorganic powder having sufficiently hydrophobized surfaces, no discoloration, and a less content of coarse agglomerated particles of≥10μm, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: By dispersing an inorganic powder having an average diameter of primary particles of 0.01-2μm in a solution in which a silane coupling agent of 0.4-1.5 mol vs. the surface area of the inorganic powder of 1×10<SP>5</SP>m<SP>2</SP>is hydrolyzed, spray-drying at 150-270°C and then vacuum-drying at 10-70°C, the hydrophobic inorganic powder having a contact angle to water of≥90°, a content of coarse agglomerated particles with diameters of≥20μm of≤10 vol.%, and a content of the unreacted hydrolyzate or condensate of the silane coupling agent of≤1.2 mass% is obtained.
