<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hydroxy compound and chlorine, by which by-produced water and unreacted hydrogen chloride are recovered and then efficiently recycled in processes. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing the hydroxy compound and the chlorine comprises the following processes. A hydrolysis: a chlorinated hydrocarbon compound is contacted with the chlorine to obtain a mixture comprising the hydroxy compound and hydrogen chloride. Hydrogen chloride separation: a portion consisting mainly of hydrogen chloride is separated and recovered from a portion consisting mainly of hydrochloric acid, and the remainder is recycled to the hydrolysis process. Oxidation: the hydrogen chloride is reacted with oxygen to obtain chlorine and water. Chlorine separating recovery: the reaction mixture of the oxidation process is separated into a portion consisting mainly of chlorine, a portion consisting mainly of oxygen, and a portion consisting mainly of water and the unreacted hydrogen chloride; a part of the portion consisting mainly of the oxygen is recycled to the oxidation process; and the portion consisting mainly of water and the unreacted hydrogen chloride is recycled to the hydrolysis process and/or the hydrogen chloride separation process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
