<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain a variation in printing density, depending on a variation in distance between a developer carrier and an image carrier in the cartridge of an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: According to a variation in difference between the developer carrier and the image carrier, the image forming apparatus controls a voltage applied to the developer carrier during image printing. In addition, the image forming apparatus detects the distance between the developer carrier and the image carrier by electrostatic capacity between the developer carrier and image carrier.
