<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has a light shielding region for shielding light and nonetheless can provide enhanced luminance by enhancing the efficiency of utilizing light. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 100 is provided with a first substrate 21, a second substrate 31 disposed in a position opposed to the first substrate 21, a liquid crystal 24 interposed between the first and the second substrates 21 and 31, the light shielding region formed on at least one of the first and the second substrates 21 and 31 and domain boundary 11 formed so as to partition the inner part of the light shielding region into a plurality of domains 9.
