1,260,612. Making heat exchangers. OLIN CORP. 20 April, 1970 [9 June, 1969], No. 18679/70. Heading B3A. In a method of making a tube-in-strip heat exchanger formed from composite strip provided with an internal pattern of stop weld material, a tensile force is applied to the strip 6 whilst the tubular passages are expanded by fluid under pressure. The strip 6 is held by a clamp 20 and pulled by a grip 21 to produce a tensile force of 40-110 p.s.i. whilst water under pressure or air under pressure at 2000-2700 p.s.i. is supplied through a device 22 to expand the passageways. The composite strip is formed by hot-rolling after which it is annealed, cold-rolled and further annealed. Opposite sides of the composite may be of the same or different metals, e.g. Al, Cu. The heat exchanger may have marginal fins (14, 15), (Fig. 4, not shown), formed by slits or fluid-inflated passages. |
