PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of optical waveguide capable of continuous manufacturing using a roll-to-roll technique and capable of corresponding to core shapes of various patterns, and to provide an optical waveguide obtained by the manufacturing method of optical waveguide. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of optical waveguide, patterning of the core shapes is performed by irradiation with direct laser beams. The manufacturing method of the optical waveguide comprising a core and upper and lower clads between which the core is held comprises: a patterning process of performing the patterning of the core shapes by irradiating the surface of core material stacked on the lower part clad material with laser beams; and a development process of developing the core material on which the core shapes are patterned.
