PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which the line width before resolution transformation is sustained even after resolution transformation without fail, and high definition print out is ensured by preventing a line from disappearing after resolution transformation. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus having a function for transforming a digital image generated from an image generating section to have a resolution different from a generated resolution, the image generating section comprises a means for generating an image while taking account of resolution transformation when the image is generated, a means for generating a line having a line width of a multiple of N when the line is drawn as the resolution transformation function transforms the resolution to 1/N by extracting a pixel at a predetermined position from adjoining N×N pixels, and a means for generating a line having a line width of a multiple of N+1 when the line is drawn as the resolution transformation function transforms the resolution to 1/N by extracting a maximum value from adjoining N×N pixels.
