PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need to rearrange a spring and to keep a scraping speed by a coating brush roller within appropriate range in terms of lapse of time. SOLUTION: The lubricant applicator includes the solid lubricant 84, and the coating blush roller 83 disposed in contact with the solid lubricant from vertically below and applying lubricant powder, scraped by sliding against the solid lubricant, to the surface of the photoreceptor. In the lubricant application device, the solid lubricant is switched from a first pressing condition, in which the solid lubricant is pressed to the coating brush roller by the weight of the lubricant itself and a pressure spring 86, to a second pressing condition, in which the solid lubricant is pressed to the coating brush roller by its weight without using the pressure spring.
