A gamma ray camera system is provided, which includes a lens system comprising at least one crystal diffraction lens, and a camera. The camera is configured to perform gamma ray imaging of a first region of a volume of interest using the lens system, and perform gamma ray imaging of a second region of the volume of interest without using the lens system.
