PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magenta ink composition excellent in printing quality, having good fastness of printed image, particularly good light resistance and gas resistance and excellent in moisture resistance and further, excellent in resistance to clogging.

SOLUTION: The magenta ink composition comprises a magenta-based dye represented by formula (I) (wherein M is H, NH4or an alkali metal; X is a diaminoalkylene group; n is 1 or 2) and an urea derivative.
