An apparatus and a method for checking a location in real time using a traffic card are provided to allow parents to recognize a location of their school-boys or school-girls who use public transportation for school through their mobile phones in real time. A member information DB(DataBase)(210) stores unique identification information assigned to a traffic fare payment unit and at least one mobile phone number associated with the unique identification information. When a traffic fare is settled through a traffic fare collecting terminal of a public transportation unit by using the traffic fare payment unit, a DB searching unit(220) reads the mobile phone number corresponding to the unique identification information of the traffic fare payment unit from the member information DB. An SMS transmission unit(230) transmits location information of the traffic fare collecting terminal to the mobile phone number.
