<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in a simple configuration and at a low cost, the apparatus being designed so as to prevent discharge failure resulting from excessive charging of a guide member and an image defect resulting from curling of the rear end of paper. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a drum-shaped image carrier PR on the surface of which a toner image is formed; a transfer roll Rt disposed opposite to and in contact with the image carrier PR and forming a transfer nip area N where the toner image is transferred to a transfer material P between the image carrier PR and the transfer roll Rt itself; and the guide member 20 that guides the transfer material P to the transfer nip area N. The guide member 20 includes a support member 21, which has an opposite end 21t disposed opposite the image carrier PR and at least part of which extends on the image carrier PR side rather than on the transfer nip contact line Ln side and which is disposed outside the movement area S used during the disassembly/assembly of the transfer roll Rt.
