PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-productivity and reliable electric double layer capacitor which can prevent cracking in its insulation case and has no external short defects of an element. SOLUTION: The electric double layer capacitor has such a structure that the element is stored between a metal case with a bottom and the insulation case 7 assembled with first and second lead terminals 8 and 9. In this electric double layer capacitor, a cutout 7a is formed at least at one place of the side face of the insulation case 7, and a corresponding insulator 11 is arranged in the cutout 7a.
