Compositions comprising: (i) a fuel component selected from the group consisting of diesel, gasoline, kerosene, other hydrocarbons which are liquid at room temperature and mixtures thereof; and (ii) and an additive of the general formula (I) are described: <?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?>R-COO-(C<SUB>n</SUB>H<SUB>2n</SUB>-O)<SUB>k</SUB>-H (I)<?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?> wherein R represents a mono- or poly-unsaturated alkylene group having from 10 to 17 carbon atoms, n is 2 or 3, and k represents a number of from 0.5 to 3; wherein the fuel component is present in an amount of more than 50% by weight, wherein the additive is present in an amount of from 0.001 to 0.1% by weight; and wherein the composition has a sulfur content of 0.2% by weight or less, all weight percents based on the composition.
