The nut (1) and/or connecting device has a noncircular, particularly hexagonal drive component and a retainer (3b) with corresponding inner contour, suited for outer counter of the nut. The retainer has a clamping part (3a) protruding over the upper side of the nut in the unloaded condition. The retainer is held with its axial direction aligned to the axial direction of a cross-hole using the retainer. The retainer is positively connected with drive component of the nut. An independent claim is also included for a method for installing a nut in one side opened slot.
