Photographic composing machine for producing text layouts comprising a picture carrier having line elements, a sensitized photographic carrier having a light-sensitive coating interposed between the picture carrier and the photographic carrier which depicts a preselected line element in the plane of the light-sensitive coating whereby continuous relative motion of the depicted line element in relation to the sensitized photographic carrier draws lines in horizontal or perpendicular directions in one process with composing of the text.
