<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain output lights whose wavelengths are distributed in a wide band, in a semiconductor light emitting element. <P>SOLUTION: In the semiconductor light emitting element, a plurality of semiconductor layers including a lower clad layer 3, an active layer 5, and upper clad layers 7, 9 are laminated on a substrate 1; and it has an optical waveguide. A recess 20 is formed on a lamination surface of a semiconductor layer which is one of the plurality of semiconductor layers and is present on the closer side to the substrate 1 than the active layer 5, and the active layer 5 and the higher-side layers than the active layer 5 are laminated on the higher side than the lamination layer. Consequently, the optical waveguide is so disposed constitutionally as to overlap in a plan view with at least a portion of the recess 20 of the active layer 5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
