PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compare image information with different resolution converted into spatial frequency characteristic information without considering difference in resolution of the image information to be evaluated. SOLUTION: In converting the image information different in resolution into the spatial frequency characteristic information, the comparison can be made without considering difference in resolution of the image information to be evaluated. The image information to be evaluated is input in an input step and the image information is converted into the spatial frequency distribution information in a frequency conversion step. In a weighting step, frequency distribution information is weighted and, in a display step, the frequency distribution information generated in the weighting step is displayed. Also, in the image processing apparatus, in the weighting step, with respect to the spatial frequency characteristic information of an image to be evaluated, the spatial frequency characteristic information is normalized by subtraction by squared resolution of the image to be evaluated.
