PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device of which the display is bright, and the thickness and the cost are reduced as a whole; and to provide an electronic appliance. SOLUTION: The electro-optical device is equipped with: a first electro-optical panel formed of a pair of substrates 4, 5 interposing an electro-optic material in between; a second electro-optical panel formed of the pair of substrates 4, 5 interposing the electro-optic material in between and placed so as to be aligned with the first electro-optical panel in plan view; a light source 31 to emit light; a first light guide member 32 arranged facing a surface opposite to a surface of the viewer's side of the first electro-optical panel and making light emitted from the light source incident on the first electro-optical panel; and a region arranged facing a surface opposite to the side of the second electro-optical panel, on which the first light guide member 32 is arranged, and receiving light guided through the first light guide member 32; and a second light guide member 28 making light incident on the second electro-optical panel.
