<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which can protect a circuit from breakdown due to accidental discharging, and which can be manufactured by almost the same operation and time as the light emitting device which is not provided with any protection circuit, and which can detect the sharp fluctuation of the potential of wiring due to the accidental discharging in the case of manufacturing. <P>SOLUTION: This light emitting device 10 includes a data line 16 and a protection circuit 141, and the protection circuit 141 includes a positive protection diode DH formed of a plurality of layers, whose cathode is electrically connected to a high potential power source line LH, and whose anode is electrically connected to a data line 16 and a negative protection diode DL formed of a plurality of layers, whose anode is electrically connected to a low potential power source line LL, and whose cathode is electrically connected to the data line 16.
