PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction stir welding tool which is adaptable to two or more kinds of objects to be welded with different thickness. SOLUTION: The friction stir welding tool is provided with: a columnar shoulder part 1; and short columnar pin parts 2, 3 which are coaxially connected to the shoulder part 1 and have outside diameter stepwise reduced toward the distal end of the tool. The axial length L2 of the pin 3 near the most distal end of the tool is set to be slightly shorter than the thickness of the object to be welded obtained by superimposing the thin members to be welded, and the total of the axial length L1 of the pin part 2 and the axial length L2 of the pin part 3 is set to be slightly shorter than the thickness t1 of the object 8 to be welded obtained by superimposing the thick members 7, 7 to be welded.
