PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid jetting device which adjusts the liquid amount of liquid droplets being discharged from a liquid jetting head to a designed liquid amount as much as possible, and can use the liquid in a liquid storage member without waste, and to provide its controlling method. SOLUTION: In this liquid jetting device, a cap member 14 as a liquid droplet receiving section is arranged to face a nozzle opening surface (nozzle board 43) of a recording head under a non-contact state. In this case, ink droplets discharged from the nozzle opening 47 of the recording head 3 can hit the cap member 14 as the liquid droplet receiving section. At the same time, the liquid jetting device is equipped with an ink droplet sensor 7 which outputs a voltage change based on the electrostatic induction as a detecting signal when ink droplets are discharged from the nozzle opening to the cap member 14 by imparting an electric field between the nozzle board and an electrode member 78 which is arranged in the cap member. The driving voltage value of discharging pulse is compensated based on the variation rate of the amplitude of the detecting signal from the ink droplet sensor 7 to a reference amplitude.
