PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high image quality, such as high resolution and high dynamic range in a display apparatus for irradiating a light modulator with a light generated from a light source and for forming a display screen, by using the light transmitted through or reflected from the light modulator. SOLUTION: The apparatus is configured to control irradiation light quantity, where high image quality is realized by a unit for temporarily storing display signal, a unit for adjusting a signal in analog state, a unit for differentiating the rate of change of the light quantity at increase and decrease times thereof, and a unit for controlling the light quantity in a hysteresis manner.
