PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slim liquid lens which has a hole for housing liquid perforated to a minimal depth to achieve slimness and compactness. SOLUTION: The liquid lens comprises: a chamber 100 having a hole 110 formed therein and a bottom part closed by a lower transparent plate 200; and insulating liquid B and electrolytic liquid A which are not miscible to each other, have different refractivities from each other and are stacked in the order from a floor of the hall to form a spherical interface. The hole has a height greater than or equal to a bigger one of a height of an initial interface before electrowetting occurs and a height of a final interface when electrowetting has occurred to a maximum amount. The liquid lens has a hole perforated to the minimal depth considering a shape of the liquid interface which is governed by a contact angle and an inclination angle of the hole and, thereby, the slimness and compactness of the liquid lens can be materialized and the operability of the liquid lens can be improved.
