[Also in Division F1] Water is discharged through nozzle arms 24, 25 extending from a case mounted for rotation and limited up and down sliding movement on stationary stem 10. The case is in two rigidly secured sections, a lower section 15 defining an annular chamber 15' which receives water through ports 26 and an upper section 16 defining a chamber which receives water through inlet 13. In the position of Fig. 1 water cannot accumulate in the upper chamber since outlet port 27 is open. Water entering the lower chamber 15' exerts a constant pressure on wall 21 forcing the case downward to the position shown in Fig. 2. Sealing member 29 then blocks the outlet 27 and pressure builds up in the upper chamber, forcing the case up until the tension in spring 32 finally pulls the sealing member down and the Fig. 1 position is again reached. An arrangement of inclined resilient fingers 35 is secured to the top of the stem and engages teeth 38 on portion 16 to cause partial rotation of the case with each up and down cycle. In a modification Figs. 6-10 (not shown) an intermediate member (49), on which the sealing member (54) is mounted, can slide on inclined pins (55) attached to the stem (40). The up and down motion of the case is produced as before and when the case is raised the intermediate member slides up over the pins and is partially rotated. This rotation is passed on to the case since the member has teeth (57) which cooperate with sockets in the upper case during upward movement of the member.</p> |
