An apparatus and a method for processing and outputting an image are provided to reproduce and print moving picture data irrespective of the format of the moving picture data by converting the format of the moving picture data into a format supported by an image forming apparatus. An image forming apparatus determines whether the image forming apparatus supports the format of moving picture data inputted thereto(212). When the image forming apparatus does not support the format of the moving picture data, the image forming apparatus is requested to convert the format of the moving picture data. A host connected to the image forming apparatus converts the format of the moving picture data into a format supported by the image forming apparatus to generate format-converted data(220). The image forming apparatus reproduces or prints the format-converted data(224).
