PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a subporphyrin compound having a specific structure.

SOLUTION: A triaryl subporphyrin compound expressed by general formula (2) is produced by using a compound expressed by general formula (1). In the formulas, R1to R6are each independently hydrogen atom, an aromatic group optionally having substituents or a 0-20C non-aromatic substituent; R1and R2, R3and R4, and R5and R6may be bonded together to form a ring; Ar1to Ar3are each independently an aromatic group which may have substituents; M is two hydrogen atoms or a bivalent or multivalent cationic atom; when the cationic atom is ≥3 valent atom, the compound may further contain a ≤20C counter anion.
