PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide element whose optical loss in the neighborhood of an inflection point is made small, and further which has facility in manufacture with accuracy and good reproducibility. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide element of this invention comprises a first curved optical waveguide and a second curved optical waveguide connected together and having cores of different curvatures from each other, and in the first curved optical waveguide and the second curved optical wave guide, the center axes of the cores of the first and second curved optical waveguides in the respective connecting end faces are shifted in parallel from each other by an axial misalignment amount d, and the respective connecting faces are arranged parallel from each other and spaced by an interval L, and are connected to each other via a straight optical waveguide having a linear core configured so that its center axis is in coincidence with the center axes of the cores of the respective curved optical waveguides in the connecting end faces.
