PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter in which the lifetime can be prolonged by suppressing temperature rise of a brush. SOLUTION: Since the bottomed cylindrical end frame 10 of the starter 1 covering cylindrical commutator 7 and a brush holder 8 provided on an armature 6 has a rib 10e protruding from the inner end face 10b to the vicinity of the brush holder 8, heat generated by the sliding of a brush 8a on the outer circumferential surface of the commutator 7 is conducted through the rib 10e and dissipated entirely from the end frame 10 into the atmosphere. Since heat dissipation from the end frame 10 is enhanced, a temperature rise of the brush 8a is suppressed and a lifetime of the brush 8a can be prolonged. Since the rib 10e protrudes to the substantially same height as the abutting face 10c of the end frame 10 against the brush holder 8, such a positional relation as the tip of the rib 10e most approaches the brush holder 8 is attained, and thereby the heat generated from the brush 8a can be conducted more certainly to the rib 10e.
