PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of effectively preventing contaminants, dirt, etc., from entering a housing through a through hole which is left open on the housing, after manufacture has been completed with neither adding new components nor performing special operations, even when a jig insertion hole etc., used in a manufacturing stage needs to be bored in the housing, as it is. SOLUTION: The image reader is equipped with an external frame member 12B, where a plurality of holes for manufacture to be used in the manufacturing stage and a plurality of usage holes to be used, after the completion of manufacturing are bored and the housing 10 having a document setting surface, and at least some 60 and 61 of the holes for manufacture and at least some 17b and 17C of the usage holes are formed as one hole at the same position.
