PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition achieving a plurality of performances such as a high ultraviolet stability and a high heat stability; and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the same. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a nematic liquid crystal composition comprising three components. A first component is a compound represented by formula (1). A second component is one compound selected from the group consisting of a terphenyl compound substituted by F, a cyclohexyl diphenyl compound substituted at the 4 position by F, an alkyl group, or the like and a dicyclohexyl phenyl compound substituted by F, an alkyl group, or the like. And a third component is a dicyclohexyl compound substituted at the 4 position by an alkenyl group. In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl group or an alkenyl group; Y<SP>1</SP>is F, Cl, or a trifluoromethoxy group; and X<SP>1</SP>to X<SP>4</SP>are H or F. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
