PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which suppresses an increase of the apparatus size without sacrificing operability according to a user's use state while a special device such as a recording medium reading device is integrally incorporated therein. SOLUTION: The special device 55 is arranged to be retreatable to a region not to interfere with the movement of a carriage 4, in a region where the carriage 4 is not present at the standby time and where the carriage moves so as to record an image.
