PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter having an excellent shape of a pattern to be obtained when developed, a spacer (a spacer for keeping a cell gap between the color filter and an electrode substrate), a TFT element flattening film (a transparent insulating film to be formed between a TFT and a transparent electrode), and a resin composition for a liquid crystal display device, which is useful for the color filter, the spacer and the TFT element flattening film and has high sensitivity.

SOLUTION: The resin composition for the liquid crystal display device contains a binder resin (A) having the weight-average molecular weight (Mw) and number-average molecular weight (Mn) satisfying expression (1): 1≤(Mw/Mn)≤(Mw/10,000)+1.
