<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coloring composition for a color filter, with which the color filter with a high contrast ratio is formed and which uses a pigment having fine and regulated particle size, and the color filter having high luminance and the high contrast ratio. <P>SOLUTION: The coloring composition for the color filter contains a pigment carrier composed of a transparent resin, its precursor or their mixture and the pigment, wherein the pigment is a fine organic pigment formed by kneading a mixture of an organic pigment, a salt whose volume based median particle size (D50) is 1-50μm, 95% particle size (D95) is 80μm or less, and Mg content is 0.002-0.08 wt.%, and a water soluble organic solvent.
