PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device and an optical coupling method which are capable of precisely and easily coupling optically with optical devices or components of optical devices to each other. SOLUTION: An optical waveguide 201b to which light for alignment is inputted is provided separately from an optical waveguide 201a to which an optical signal is inputted, and a reflecting mirror 204a is disposed on an extension of the optical waveguide 201b. Light outputted from a laser light source 231 is inputted to the optical waveguide 201b through a circulator 233 and an optical fiber 243 and reaches the reflecting mirror 204a through a collimating part 202 and an optical deflecting element part 203. Light reflected by the reflecting mirror 204a is inputted to a photodetector 232 from the optical waveguide 201b through the circulator 233. The position of the optical deflecting element part 203 is adjusted so as to maximize an output of the photodetector 232, and the optical deflecting element part 203 is fixed on a substrate 200.
