PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance reliability in perpendicular magnetic recording by reducing magnetic flux flowing into a recording medium though a magnetic shield of a read head part. SOLUTION: In the perpendicular magnetic head having a write head part and a read head part, wherein the write head part has a core including a main pole and a return yoke and a coil winding around a part of the core, and exciting the main pole, the read head part has a reproduction element and a pair of the magnetic shields for sandwiching it. The main pole and the reproduction element are aligned in a direction toward a line along relative movement to the recording medium. The main magnetic pole is arranged nearer to the reproduction element than the return yoke. When the main pole faces a storage medium within circumference of the core, a magnetic substance is arranged for forming a passage for the magnetic flux, not through the recording medium, in a rear area which is the area further from the storage medium than the core.
