PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a robot controller and a control method, capable of surely deciding whether the robot body is a robot body with the origin position set with respect to the robot controller, when drive-control of the robot body is carried out by the robot controller. SOLUTION: A subordinate CPU 14 is provided in the controller 10 to store manufacturer's serial numbers of drive motors 21a-21b, and to store a reference manufacturer's serial number of the one mounted, from among the drive motors 21a-21b, on the robot body 20 set with the origin position. The manufacturer's serial number of the mounted motor, from among the drive motors 21a-21b on the robot body 20, is read at each start-up of the controller 10, and is compared with the reference manufacturer's serial number, which is stored in the subordinate CPU 14 of the mounted motor, from among the drive motors 21a-21b, on the robot body 20 with the origin position processing carried out.
