PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow backlight luminance to be controlled during operations not hindering a user in a start state, a standby state, a pause state, and a data transfer state of a display device provided with a backlight, in consideration that power is wasted because a display picture is always fixed even during operations not hindering the user in the start state, the standby state, the pause state, and the data transfer state, etc. and that problems of a usage time etc. occur on the user when using a battery or the like. SOLUTION: An electronic device having the display device provided with the backlight includes a means for detecting an operation condition during a start operation in a start picture during the start operation and a means for controlling luminance of the backlight on the basis of the detection means.
