PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device with reduced time necessary for a preparatory operation for fixation. SOLUTION: The fixing device 4 has two guide rollers 7, a heater 8 provided in each of the guide rollers, a heating belt 6 extended between the two guide rollers 7, a pressure roller 5 which comes into contact with the heating belt 6 to form a nip N, an energizing mechanism 12 which energizes the pressure roller 5 toward the heating belt 6, and a nip releasing mechanism 20 for releasing the nip N. The nip releasing mechanism 20 includes a cam 21. During preparation of fixing operation, the pressure roller 5 is put away from the heating belt 6 by pressing down a lever 121 of the energizing mechanism 12 to thereby release the nip N.
