A method for coating surfaces with film (F) by (a) either coating the surface with a near-infrared-curable adhesive (K) and then applying the film (F), or covering the surface with film which is coated on that side with (K) and then (b) exposing the film-coated object to NIR radiation with a wavelength of 750-950 nm, in which the adhesive (K) comprises (A) a component containing cyanine cation(s) with an absorption peak in the above range and (B) borate anion(s). An independent claim is included for film-coated objects obtained by this method.
