<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas, which is excellent in exhaust gas cleaning performance and heat resistance and in which the amount of a noble metal to be used is saved and to provide a catalytic member. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas has a substantially perovskite type crystal structure and is characterized in that one or more elements selected from Pt, Pd and Rh at the least are deposited on a compound oxide shown by formula 1: A<SB>α</SB>B<SB>1-x</SB>B'<SB>x</SB>O<SB>3-δ</SB>(wherein A is one or two elements selected substantially from Ba and Sr; B is one or two elements selected substantially from Fe and Co; B' is one or more elements selected substantially from Nb, Ta and Ti; 1.05≥α≥0.95; 0.3≥x≥0.05; and δ is a value to be decided so that an electric charge neutrality condition of the compound oxide is satisfied).
