<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an induction heating cooking device which reduces the heat release value by eliminating any overloads applied on a power element irrespective of the quality of a vessel material. <P>SOLUTION: The induction heating cooking device controls opening/closing of a capacity changing means in accordance with the decision result from a material quality discrimination means included in a control means, and incorporates an opening/closing detection means for detecting opening/closing of the capacity changing means. Further, the device determines a quality of a vessel material using the different resonant characteristics depending on the magnetic or non-magnetic performance, and obtains the resonant status suited for each material quality by changing the capacity of a resonant capacitor on the basis of the decision result.
