<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suitably executing adjustment processing in accordance with a type of postprocessing, and a control method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes, for example, an adjustment means, a determination means, and a control means. The adjustment means forms an adjustment pattern with a developer on a carrier and measures the adjustment pattern to perform an operation adjusting at least one of an image formation position and an image formation density. The determination means determines whether processing of forming an image of a job requiring postprocessing for a sheet having an image formed thereon, on the carrier and adjustment processing by the adjustment means can be executed in parallel or not. The control means operates the adjustment means in the case that formation of the image of the job requiring postprocessing and adjustment processing by the adjustment means can be executed in parallel.
