An illumination instrument using LED includes: a metal instrument body (90); a plurality of LED chip units (1) having a pair of leads (42, 43) electrically connected to an LED chip and electrodes of the LED chip; and an insulation layer (80) arranged between the instrument body (90) and the LED chip units (1) for electrically insulating them from each other and thermally connecting them. A plurality of window holes (23) are formed on a circuit board (20) for passing the respective LED chip units. Around the window holes, the lead terminals are electrically connected to a circuit pattern on the circuit substrate. The lower surfaces of the respective LED chip units are thermally connected via the insulation layer (80) to the instrument body (90). Thus, the heat generated in the LED chips is transferred to the instrument body via the insulation layer without passing through the circuit substrate.
