PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce waste of resources at the time of disposal by simplifying the structure of a refilling liquid tank thereby reducing the cost. SOLUTION: The liquid supply device comprises an ink tank 1, a refilling ink tank 2 for storing refilling ink 9, a placing means 3 for elevating/lowering the refilling ink tank 2 while mounting on a mount 11 replaceably, a means 4 for detecting the residual quantity of ink 7 in the ink tank 1, and a control means for elevating/lowering the refilling ink tank 2 by driving the placing means 3 based on a detection output from the residual quantity of ink detection means 4, supplying the refilling ink 9 from the refilling ink tank 2 to the ink tank 1 by utilizing the head difference of ink generated between the refilling ink tank 2 and the ink tank 1, and judging that the refilling ink 9 in the refilling ink tank 2 has run out when the mount 11 of the placing means 3 is located at the uppermost position and the detected residual quantity of ink in the ink tank 1 is below a predetermined reference level.
