PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a barbiturate derivative exhibiting enhancing effects on herbicidal effects and exhibiting fast-acting properties as a herbicide. SOLUTION: An enhancing agent for the herbicidal effects comprises the barbiturate derivative represented by formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>represents a 4-12C alkyl, a 5-9C alkenyl or a 5-9C alkynyl which may optionally be substituted by a 1-4C alkoxy; R<SP>2</SP>represents a methyl or an ethyl group; R<SP>3</SP>represents a methyl or an ethyl group; and X represents an O or an S atom) or a salt thereof as an active ingredient. The fast-acting herbicide comprises a part of the barbiturate derivative represented by formula (1) as the active ingredient.
